The first dedicated exhibition displays over 100 artworks - landscapes, interiors, and genre, from the collection of the Russian Museum.

Christianity in the Culture and Everyday Life of Peoples in Russia of the XIX-XX centuries.  
The exhibition makes a part of all-Russia pro-gram to celeb-rate 2 milleni-ums of Christ-ianity and the third millen-ium. It is pre-pated by the professionals from the Rus-sian Ethno-graphical Mu-seum, the Museum for Anthropology and Ethnography, the Museum for History of Religion, National Library of Russia, and the Institute of Russian Literature, with the assistance of all Christian confessions. More than 1000 exhibits are involved to show the confessional and ethnic diversity of such complicated and multifacetous phenomenon as Christianity and its role in the formation of spiritual basis of social culture for the peoples in Russian Empire, and formal variety of religious influence on humans and human society. Icons, written and printed books, Orthodox and Roman Catholic cheap popular prints, unique accessories of rites, church vests due to different confessions, golden embroidery, costumes, household utensils, and also artworks of nowaday pious young people.

The Memory of Body. The Underwear in Soviet Era.
The exhibition is composed of underwear pieces produced and accustomed in Soviet Russia and USSR (1917-1991), from the collection of State Museum of St.Petersburg History, and private collections of Yu.Demidenko and A.Petlyura. Historical materials are provided by National Library of Russia and private archives, also rare examples of commercial advertisement on underwear, posters, signed graphic works, photographs offered. Historical materials are surrounded by nowadays artists▓ items prepared just to feature the exhibition (video films, installations, objects, photographs).

Unique materials from the collection of the Museum of St.Peters-burg History: author▓s drafts by Rastrelli and architectural graphics by his school, au-thentic letters by the architect, buildings to his design reflected in paintings and graphics of the XVIII-XIX centuries. To celebrate the tercentenary from the birthdate of the architect F.B.Rastrelli, the life story and creative activity of this most prominent architect is exposed, amidst the XVIII century (Baroque Age) during the reign of the Empress Elisabeth Petrovna. Also on display: documents and draughts by the architect, including ones from the archive of Lugano (Switzerland), portrait paintings and decorative and applied art items of the XVIII century, rarities of military glory, and 7-year War trophies. Joint project of the largest in St.Petersburg museums and archives.

Petersburg Jewellers. Artistic Jewelry of the XVIII-XIX Centuries, from the collection of the State Hermitage. Creative Activity of Modern Craftsmen.
The exposition contains ca.150 outstanding artworks by Petersburg jewellers, from the Hermitage collection. Items by famous craftsmen of the XVIII century: Jerome Posier, Jean-Pierre Ador, Jean-Jacques Duc, Johann Gottlieb Scharf, Joachim Hasselgren etc. who worked for the courts of Empresses Elisabeth Petrovna and Catherine II. Jewelry of the XIX century is represented via the pieces by Johann Hellfried Barbe, Wilhelm Keibel, craftsmen from the famous C.Faberge workshop. The exhibits stem from the Winter Palace collection, Royal Hermitage, and nationalized collections of Russian aristocracy. For the first time in the Hermitage, the exhibition displays products by contemporary Petersburg jewellers which are the evidence both of unbroken old masters▓ traditions and a new challenge. Those are items by G. and N. Bykovs, D.Pasynkov, V.Alyushin, I.Malkiel, V.Shestakov, L.Zvyagin, M.Brestkin, designers of jewelry manufacture ⌠Russkie Samotsvety (Russian Gemstones)■ - V.Chernova, N.Kalganova, D.Klimina, masters of Ananov company.

300 Years of Russian Royal Guards.
On display, ca.700 things: uniform outfits and arma-nents, banners and regalia of the regiments, paintings, graphics, applied art, and numis-matics items, and documents referring the bright and dramatic history of Russian Royal Guards founded by Peter the Great. The emblem of the Guards was the eight-ended star of St.Andrew with the motto ⌠For Faith and Fidelity■ that gave the name for the exhibition. Arranged by The Hermitage with the assistance of Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers and Signal Corps, State Museum in memory of A.V.Suvorov, Russian Museum, palace-and-park ensembles Tsarskoe Selo, Peterhof, Pavlovsk.

Calendar, the Custodian 
of Time.
Embraced are 25 centuries the calendar has been known for (the V century BC - the 
XX century AD) and includes ca.300 items. Among them - church and secular calendars rendering different styles and annual cycles, used in the Antiquity, in Orient, and Europe (Gregorian and Julian calendars, Chinese calendar by Lu Bo, Gothic calendar, astrological calendar by Nostradamus, the first Russian civil calendar by J.Bruce). Besides, numerous curiosity calendars, e.g. mounted in a cane, on arms, amphoras, or other applied art specimens, and also astrolabes are on display.

French Art of the XX Century. Pierre Bonnard and Maurice Denis.
Exhibition in the new building acquired by The Hermitage Museum - General Head-quarters. Uni-que decorative compositions: Bonnard▓s trip-tych ⌠At Medi-terranean■ (1911) and a series of panels by Denis ⌠Psyche▓s Story■ (1908-1909), made by the order of a Muscovite collectioner, I.A.Morozov, are worth special attention.

Included are ca.100 masterpieces of Western Europe engravings of the XV-XVIII centuries. The exposition is of an iconographic kind: its purpose is to follow the elaborations on the subject by Rembrandt, Dürer, Tiepolo, and other maitres.

Over 600 items of Russian and Westeuropean decorative and applied art, graphics, paintings, harboured in new exhibition halls of General Headquarters building - former office of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russian Empire. Some of the interiors keep preserved the decoration made to the design of Carlo Rossi, the famous architect who created the building.

The history of developing monetary system in the XVIII-XIX centuries is described. Ca. 900 ex-hibits: coins, medals of Russia and Oriental and Western European countries, from the end of the XIV - beginning of the XV centuries; a lot of experimental coins and medals of Peter I▓s age and rare coins of the XIX century. About 1,500 gold things dated from the VII century BC till the XX century, put into 3 sections: ⌠Gold of the Ancient Nomads■ with the renowned Siberian collection assembled by Peter I and the world-famous collection of Scythian gold; ⌠Greek Gold from the Black Sea North Littoral■, from the VI century BC till the III century AD; ⌠The Jewelry Art of the Orient and the New World dated from the XVI - the beginning of the XX centuries■ - unique products of Indian craftsmen, Chinese jewels, samples of toreutics from Pre-Columbian America, and also the excellent collection of ceremonial armament.

Kazimir Malevich 
in the Russian Museum.
Ca.100 paintings and 40 graphic works by this outstanding artist, from the collection of the Russian Museum possessing the largest amount of these. It is for the first time that Malevich▓s activity has been represented with such comprehension: monumental canvases, futuristic books, cheap popular print of World War I times, famous architections, i.e. proto-types of the architecture to come, projects on fabric paintings, innovative porcelain products.

Over 500 painting, graphics, decorative and applied art, and sculpture items from the collections of the Russian Museum, Tretyakov Gallery, and some other state and private collections of Russia, Europe, and the USA. Both the artists closely knit to Malevich who worked under his quidance in Vitebsk and Petrograd/Leningrad, and those who considered dealings in cubism and suprematism just as episodical, are represented by their works: L.Lisitskiy, V.Ermolaeva, N.Suetin, I.Chashkin, L.Hidskel, L.Yudin, A.Leporskaya, K.Rozhdestvenskiy, V.Sterligov, A.Tseitlin, Yu.Vasnetsov etc.

A review on life and creative activity of a remarkable poet of the end of the XIX - beginning of the XX centuries, who published his verses signed by initials ⌠K.R.■. K.Romanov was the last Grand Duke - owner of the Marble Palace.

300 Years to Russian Military Engineers.
The exhibition is timed to the tercentenary of national engineering corps. On display are fine arts and applied art items, authentic historical documents and effects. Among the exhibits - a large series of battle-pieces, mastic figurines of soldiers from Russian engineering corps in the XIX century; documents, medals, various effects of Great Patriotic War time, models of afterwar engineering machinery, advanced facilities on blocking and clearing.

Exhibition to mark the 90th anniversary to the museum, in memory of its founders and first employees. Rare items of the XVIII - the beginning of the XX centuries are shown, from the collection of the Museum of St.Petersburg History: one of the best in St.Petersburg, collection of last century restaurant menu, St.Petersburg artisans▓ guild banners of the XVIII-XIX centuries, details of ancient constructions, furniture collection, porcelain ware, architectural drawings by G.Guarenghi, painted St.Petersburg landscapes etc.

That was the former name of one of the oldest districts of St.Petersburg - Smolninsky (now merged with the Central District). Items from the collection of the Museum of St.Petersburg History tell about the history of the place: paintings, graphics, photographs, postcards, documents, uniform fittings and arming, excavated finds from the XVII century - the beginning of the XX century.

can I see...■. Blok▓s Outskirts of St.Petersburg.
The exposition raises the vision of the St.Petersburg suburbs favoured by the poet Aleksandr Blok. Ozerki, Pargolovo, Lakhta, The Islands were not only Blok▓s favourite palces but also a part of his poetical world. Displayed are engravings of the end of the XIX - the beginning of the XX centuries, also authentic items of the age: playbills and programs of suburban theatres, railway tickets etc. Contemporary photographs by V.I.Mayboroda, taken from places Blok erstwhile frequented, enframe the exposition.

A small exhibition and show tell about the history of the Schluesselburg Fortress. The focus of the exhibition is a unique model reconstructing the fortress in the 1st half of the XVIII century. The full-colour computer printouts, and also audio- and lighting effects, are exploited for the exposition.

Musical instruments, incl. mechanical, gramophones, musical boxes, early audio recording devices are imitating the environment of Petersburgian salons at the edge of the XIX-XX centuries.

⌠Pavilion of Roses■.
A pavilion of Pavlovsk Park surrounded by rosebeds, created by the architect A.Voronikhin in 1811, became the scene of welcome gala party to greet Emperor 
Alexander I after his victory over Napoleon, on July 27, 1814. The dancing hall was arranged for this purpose, with the gilt plafond dedicated to martial vigour. Hanging garlands of silk roses decorate the chandelier in the middle of the ceiling, and the interiors are graced with embroidered furniture.

G.Skorodumov (1754-1792) - a bright Russian artist of the XVIII century, who gained European recognition mostly as outstanding engraver. The exposition of several tens of engravings, belonging to Russian Museum collection, is the most representative of all dedicated exhibitions before.

Royal Collection of Miniature Sculpture by W.Hasenberger.
On display, a unique collection of bronze and gesso sculpture of size 55-65 cm, made by the order and with personal partaking of Emperor Nicholas I: their uniform and arms are copied from Russian Army in the middle of the 
XIX century. Also, represented are paintings, military decorations, armaments, banners, archive documents of this time. Provided by the collections of the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, Fine Arts Academy Museum.
